A journey back in time in
the best way to describe the hotel Raspail-Montparnasse. As you make your
way through the two massive doors which open into this luminous vestibule
with raised ceilings, you enter into the glorious era of the 192Os, when
painters, musicians and patrons of the arts turned Montparnasse into the
international capital of artistic creation and inspiration.
Everything in the hotel has either been conserved or restored with exquisite
taste by the celebrated Parisian decorator Serge Pons. The hotel's
architecture, with arched-bay-windows and ceilings replete with art-deco
motif, bears witness to the twenties while enchanting the eye of today's
visitor. You will enjoy pausing under the silent blades of the ceiling fans,
or perhaps resting in one of the plush armchairs set next to the corner bar,
which is made of luxurious tobacco-coloured wood. Over the porch, there is a
metallic marquise, a gleaming example of the steelworks that came out of the
twenties. While remaining faithful to it prestigious past, the
Raspail-Montparnasse has adapted itself to even the most rigorous demands of
its international clientele. Everything is computerised : from reservations
and billing to the locks on the doors. In the rooms, whose colours vary
according to the floor, careful attention has been paid to every detail.
Besides an automated international telephone system, all thirty-eight rooms
have private air-conditioning controls, sound-proofing, cable television
(fourteen international channels), a minibar and a safe that can be opened
only with the guest's credit card. Rooms look out over Rodin's famous statue
of Balzac, and at legendary Parisian literary cafés such as Le Dôme, La
Rotonde and Le Select. Of course, the Eiffel Tower frames every view. All
this to make nights in the Raspail-Montparnasse truly magical.
In homage to those responsible for the fabled past of Montparnasse, each
room honours an individual artist by displaying his work. Thus, you lodge
in the presence of Braque, Cézanne, Chagall, Cocteau, Dali, Foujita,
Gauguin, Matisse, Miro, Modigliani, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh or another
great artist when you discover a beautiful reproduction of the master's work
hanging on your wall.
